Floral Design 101 at The Upcycled Warehouse

The Upcycled Warehouse is back in bloom!

On May 9th and 16th students from Point Loma Nazarene University's Continuing Education program took part in a two-day boot camp to learn the art of floral design at Embellishmint's headquarters, The Upcycled Warehouse.

While I love to play with flowers, teaching others how to create beauty truly inspires me. Five fabulous ladies joined this class, all novices, looking to enhance their design aesthetics. From Sandy's need to create centerpieces for work events to Emily's career ambitions in Interior Design, every student went home with an understanding of florals and the ability to create a stunning arrangement.
In fact, there may be a few budding florists within this mix!

Week one, we focused on the tools of the trade and basic arrangement styles. Each student crafted two centerpieces using different-shaped vessels and experienced floral foam. Working with a floral palette of roses, hydrangea, lily grass, leather and ti leaves, the students learned to start with greens and then "cluster" the florals, along with the coveted tip on arranging in threes.
Week two, my floralistas were eager to learn how to design wedding flowers - from boutonnieres to corsages and the magical bride's bouquet! We started by prepping and processing the flowers and succulents. The girls played with the mechanics of crafting basic boutonnieres and wrist corsages using many floral elements. The finale for each gal was creating a bridal bouquet and they learned the art of "twisting" the handheld to arrange an organic but perfectly shaped bouquet for a VERY special day!
I was honored to work with such amazing women in this class! Thank you to Hannah, Janae, Sandy, Emily and Jenna for reminding me why I love this business and allowing me to share my passion for flowers. And I couldn't have done it without Ann Strobel of Ann's Plans, her assistance and support means the world to me!

Embellishmint Floral and Event Design will be hosting new classes and workshops in the coming months. For more information and to get on our mailing list, email pr@embellishmint.com
